Running in Illinois, Bishop Hill To Galva 10K Run

I miss the Bishop Hill to Galva 10K run. As the name says it ran from Bishop Hill to Galva, 6.2 miles. After the race they would take you back to Bishop Hill on a school bus.
This race, which took place in July, was one of the hottest of year. The course was ran on some gravel roads but mostly asphalt roads. In the 90 to 100 degree heat the road was like running in chewing gum, the sticky tar seeming to come up with your shoes at every step. You could see the heat rising off the blacktop road in waves curving the air as it floated upwards. There were only slight hills and nothing on the horizon but knee high corn. Not a breath of air or bit of shade was to be found anywhere. This race was one of my first and greatest challenges and maybe this was why I liked it so much. I wish they still had this race and still think of it now from to time.
