102 counties

In February, I started my goal of running a race all 102 counties in Illinois. To date, I have run in 17 counties, with a goal of hitting all of them over the next 15 years. Since I started doing this, I have been compiling a list of races in Illinois. Prairie State Runner has been extremely useful in this, with its calendar and posts. What a great site! The web sites for the various running clubs in Illinois and some other sites have also helped me compile my list. They have enabled me to look at races that have happened over the last four years or so.

What I have found is that at least 84 of the 102 counties have had a race in the last four years. In some counties, I am not sure if the race is still being held. For two years, for example, Menard County had the Harvest Fest Race but that will not be held this year and that was the only race that county had. Luckily, I've run it. Last weekend I ran the only race I could find in Fayette County because I am not sure it will be around forever.

The largest chunk of counties without races are in southern and southeastern Illinois. If you know of any races in the following counties, please let me know. The missing counties are:
Alexander, Pulaski, Pope, Hardin, Gallatin, White, Wabash, Edwards, Wayne, Lawrence, Bond, Calhoun, Cass, Brown, Schuyler, Warren, Henderson, and Putnam.
